In 132 a.c. , the Roman Consul Emilio Scauro, to consolidate the boundaries and to contain the pressures of population in the north, located numerous legionary troops in the valleys of the Natisone, forming a fortress on a hill above S. Pietro al Natisone.
This site was the subject of numerous studies of Dott.Amelio Tagliaferri; during the exavations were found many relics, many Roman Silver coins and many acorns missiles (lead bullets, which were launched by a leather sling).
In 2003, during a visit there with my friend Meraldo, we find a tree uprooted by the wind, and falling, it had raised the ground below. Looking into the hole immediately we found 2 spearheads, a fibula (brooch) and a strange object in twisted iron. We decided immediately, to preserve them, to remove the objects and delivering them to the Archaeological Museum of Cividale del Friuli.
Following our discovery was done an official archeological excavation, and were found other relics, including a fantastic iron sword. The strange object we found (in twisted iron), then we realize it was the element that supported the sword on the warrior belt.
All that objects, were part of a funerary outfit of a Celtic Warrior (300-400 BC); this demonstrates that the Valleys of Natisone were, before the Romans presence, inhabited and frequented by the Celtics.
